Call for Papers

There is a large consensus in the scientific community that today’s food system is not sustainable. Agriculture in the Global South accounts for a major share of worldwide child labour and forced labour. And for the Global North, reducing the environmental footprint of an average diet will be key to limiting global warming, soil erosion and biodiversity.

The necessary transformation processes are complex and require both a food system perspective aligning sustainable food production systems with healthy diets and coherent food policies across the different dimensions of agriculture, environment and human health. Thus, we face two societal challenges i) to make food production more sustainable and food consumption healthier and ii) to go through a political process of transforming the food system.

The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL and Switzerland’s federal research organisation Agroscope in collaboration with the Swiss Society for Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology (SGA) cordially invite contributions for the Seminar "Food System Transformation - Role of Research" that present innovative approaches to these questions. In addition, we welcome contributions highlighting the role that researchers can play in the transformation process through their work on various levels. Contributions can be submitted as:

  • Fifteen-minute presentations,
  • Posters for the poster session, or
  • Five-minute project pitches.

The programme committee has, of course, the liberty to accept submitted presentations as pitches or posters. Please submit your extended abstract of 1-2 pages (for all contributions) by 28/02/2024 at www.conftool.org/eaae-seminar-187-switzerland-2024/ using the cover page template and the anonymised abstract template. Members of the scientific committee will act as reviewers. It is likely, however, that authors of submitted abstracts will also be asked to review contributions. Please note that you must be an EAAE member, in order to submit a contribution (see here for information on subscription).

We will send out notifications about acceptance by 15/04/2024

The official language of the Seminar is English.
